Arizona Diamondbacks vs. San Diego Padres, second game in this series where the home team has the advantage with a victory. The Padres showed power last night by winning over five runs at home. Visitors led a dangerous pitcher but the threat did not work. Results similar to those of yesterday are expected today.
Arizona Diamondbacks: Time to start.
Last season for the Diamondbacks was not so bad, 85-77 overall is not a bad number but it did not help them to reach the postseason. The team was second in the Western Division in 2019. The first game in this series against the Padres was difficult to assimilate, the D’backs defense was solid the first five and a half innings. But after closing the sixth inning the D’backs already lost 3-0.
In 2019 the Diamondbacks won 41 games and lost another 41 on the road. But against the Padres they won the first series on the road in San Diego 2-1. They ultimately won two of three series in San Diego against the Padres in 2019.
Robbie Ray will be defending from the mound today for the D’backs. Ray career is 6 years old in the MLB, his first team was the Tigers. Last season Ray closed the year with 12-8 and 4.34 ERA. His best season was in 2017 with 15-5.
San Diego Padres: At home we are tough.
The Padres scored runs in the sixth and seventh innings to win the first game of this series 7-2 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Tatis Jr., Pham, Profar and Grisham scored the winning runs in the first game. Paddack was in the mound with 6 pitched innings and only 4 hits allowed. The Padres usually do well playing at home, although last season the record was negative with 37-45 overall.
Last season was not a positive for the Padres with 70-92 overall. One of the most prominent games was a landslide 19-2 victory against the Blue Jays. For this year the Padres have a new manager; Jayce Tingler begins his first job as a professional team manager in MLB.
Dinelson Lamet will open the game tonight against the D’backs. This is his second opportunity as a professional. Lamet debuted with the Padres in 2017 for a record 7-8 overall. During 2018, Lamet was recovering from an elbow surgery. In 2019 the record for him was 3-5.
