The MLB is back on Wednesday afternoon as the Colorado Rockies will clash with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA in the final game of their three-game series. The Rockies will start this game with Kyle Freeland. On the other side, the Pirates will counter with Chad Kuhl.
Colorado Rockies Form
The Colorado Rockies did not have the best start of the season as they lost seven of their first 12 games, but it seems that they have turned the tide as they managed five wins in their last six games. The offensive side of their game was not very productive at the start of the season as they have averaged just 3.75 runs per game during their first 12 games. However, the Rockies bounced back and now their stats are showing 4.50 runs per game over their six games prior to Tuesday.
The Rockies have a below average stats this year as they are placed on the 18th spot in the league in scoring, putting up 4.00 runs per game, while also being placed on the 27th spot in Majors in hitting at .218 and 1st in homers with 26. On the mound, the Rockies have been a bit below average as they come in place on the 19th spot in the league in ERA at 4.13, while also ranking 15th in WHIP at 1.28 and 8th in K’s with 151.
Pittsburgh Pirates Form
The Pittsburgh Pirates had a good start of the season as they are placed on the top spot in the National League Central. That is due to the fact that their offence has been n pretty solid at the start of this season. However, they have struggled in the first game of the series as the lost 6-2. Chad Kuhl will get a start in this game and he has gone 1-1 with a 5.74 ERA and a 1.79 WHIP in his three starts on the year, including 0-0 with a 3.60 ERA and a 1.60 WHIP in his one appearance here at home.
On the offensive side of the game, the Pirates have been pretty good so far as they are placed on the 5th spot in the league in scoring, putting up 5.56 runs per game, while also ranking 4th in hitting at .264 and 9th in homers with 19. On the mound, the Pirates have been below average so far as they are placed on the 22nd spot in the league in ERA at 4.50, while also taking the 19th spot in WHIP at 1.33 and 24th in K’s with 113.
These series are very interesting as both teams are playing well. And although the Rockies won the first game, I expect that the Pirates offensive firepower to get back on track in this game. Combined with the fact that they are 11-4 in their last 15 home games in this series, makes my decision a lot easier. I go for the Pirates in this one.
