The MLB brings more action today as the Miami Marlins will clash with the Philadelphia Phillies.
This will be the opening game of a three-game series. Miami will be heading into this game after a 10-3 in their last game against the Mets. Philadelphia closed their five-game series on the road against the Nationals Thursday as they were defeated 5-2 on Wednesday night.
Miami Marlins Form
The Marlins suffered two defeats in their last two games against the New York Mets. Moreover, the Marlins entered Thursday in the basement of the NL East, 41.5 games behind the Braves. It is another disappointing season for the Fish and they will need to reorganize and reinforce for next year.
Pablo Lopez will get the nod for Miami in this game as this will be his 21st start this season. Moreover, his record for the season stands at 5-8 with a 4.96 ERA, a 1.215 WHIP, 27 walks and 92 strikeouts over 107 innings of work this season. Also, his record against the Phillies is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA, a 0.943 WHIP, three walks and nine strikeouts over 11.2 innings in two career starts.
Philadelphia Phillies Form
The Phillies are another team that suffered this season. Moreover, their recent form is not good enough as they lost their last 5 games in a row against the Nationals. The Phillies entered Thursday fourth in the NL East, 17.5 games behind the Braves, so they are out of playoff contention.
Vince Velasquez will get the nod for the Phillies and this will be his 23rd start this season. Also, his record so far stands at 7-8 with a 4.76 ERA, a 1.376 WHIP, 43 walks and 127 strikeouts over the course of 113.1 innings this season. His record against the Fish is at 4-3 with a 4.06 ERA, a 1.078 WHIP, 20 walks and 68 strikeouts over 68.2 innings in 14 career starts.
Both sides are out of playoff contention this season. Therefore, they can only play for pride and prestige.
Also, there were no high expectations for the Marlins this season, but it was expected more from the Phillies.
All in all, the Marlins are in better form at the moment. Additionally, they are building a team for the future so there is no pressure on them. As for the Phillies, they are in a poor form at the moment and they do not play well. Therefore, I believe that the Fish have the edge in this game. Take Miami to win this one.
