The Major League Baseball is back in action on Thursday evening as the Miami Marlins will clash with the St Louis Cardinals in game three of their three-game series from Busch Stadium in St Louis, Missouri. The Marlins will give the nod to Elieser Hernandez and the Cardinals will counter with Miles Mikolas.
Miami Marlins Form
The Miami Marlins are in going through a really bad time this season. They just went through six-game losing streak which was hard to take. However, it seems that the Marlins turned the tide as they won game one of this series by a score of 7-4. That win gave them more confidence and that resulted with an impressing win in the second game with a score of 11-3. They have been very solid in this series so far and their aim will be to continue that run. The Marlins have averaged 3.44 runs per game and have allowed 5.94 runs per game on the road so far.
On the offensive side of the game, they have some poor stats so far, as they are placed on the 30th place in the league in scoring, putting up 3.38 runs per game, while also being on the 23rd spot in hitting at .234 and 30th in homers with a total of 45 so far. On the mound, they have been poor as they are placed on the 28th in the league in ERA at 5.04, while also holding the 25th spot in WHIP at 1.43 and 22nd in K’s with 479.
St. Louis Cardinals Form
The Cardinals were in a solid form before the start of this series against the Marlins. The general expectations were that they will be the dominant team as they have the better offence and they were more effective on the mound so far this season. However, that was not the case, as the Cards lost the first two games against the struggling Marlins in this series. Based on the result of those two games, the Cards will need to improve their offense as their game plan seemed to be ineffective. The Cardinals have averaged 4.23 runs per game and have allowed 3.71 runs per game here at home for the year.
On the offensive side of the game, the Cardinals have some average stats as they are placed on the 15th spot in the league in scoring, putting up 4.29 runs per game, while also holding the 18th spot in hitting at .241 and 13th in homers with a total of 69 so far. On the mound, they have been solid as they are placed on the 7th in the league in ERA at 3.54 while also holding the 13th in WHIP at 1.26 and 21st in K’s with 482.
The Marlins were the underdogs in this series, but they managed to surprise everyone by winning the first two games in a dominant way. On the other side, the Cardinals will surely aim to bounce back and win against a struggling team. I expect that the Cardinals will regroup and win this 3rd game of the series against the Marlins.
