The MLB is back in action today as the Philadelphia Phillies will clash with the Chicago Cubs. This will be game 4 of their 4 game series. The Phillies will start this game with Aron Nola. And on the other side, the Cubs will counter with Jon Lester.
Philadelphia Phillies Form
The Phillies enjoyed a solid start of the season. Moreover, they had been getting strong play from their bullpen of late and it has had a good season overall. Now, the Phillies have 2.5 game lead in their division and are one of the main contenders for the top spot this season.
However, their offence needs to improve a bit as they have been lacking consistency in the last few games.
Yet, their defence is really strong and that is compensating at the moment.
On the offensive side of the game, the Phillies score an average of 4.92 runs per game. Therefore, this record is enough for the 12th spot in the league in scoring. Also, their hitting stands at .242 and their total homers so far stand at 52.
On the mound, they are placed on the 9th spot in the league in ERA at 3.90, while also ranking 21st in WHIP at 1.36 and 19th in Ks with 406.
The Cubs have been one of the better teams in the MLB in the last few years. This season, they have a strong team again. Also, the addition of Aroldis Chapman gives them additional quality in the team.
Cubs will need to add a strong presence to the backend of their bullpen if they hope to make another serious run at a World Title. On the positive side, they have in-form players in Kris Bryant and Javier Baez. It was those two that made the difference for them in the last game against the Phillies.
On the offensive side of the game, the Cubs score an average of 5.33 runs per game which is the 4th best record in the league in scoring. Also, they have a total of 69 homers so far in the season.
On the mound, they are 5th in the league in ERA at 3.58, while also being 17th in WHIP at 1.32 and 14th in K’s with 412.
The Phillies have a good team and they have been playing good this season. However, it is highly unlikely that Aron Nola will be better than Jon Lester in the Windy City. Also, the Cubs are a strong team at home and they have a few other faces that are in commanding form at the moment. Take the Cubs to wins this one.
