The MLB is back this Wednesday as two rivals from the National League East will bring some excitement. The Washington Nationals will face with the Philadelphia Phillies at the Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, PA in the final game of a three-game series. The Nationals will start this game with Stephen Strasburg and the Phillies will counter with Aaron Nola.
Washington Nationals Form
The Nationals will probably not be part of the playoffs. They had dropped their form at a crucial period and that cost them a spot in the postseason.
However, it seems that the Nats are motivated to play the spoiler role as they have won the last two games against the Phillies. It will be interesting to see how they will approach this game as the Phillies really need the win. The Nationals have averaged 4.37 runs per game and have allowed 3.81 runs per game on the road for the year.
Stephen Strasburg record against the Phillies stands at 11-2 with a 2.50 ERA in 23 starts, including 4-0 with a 1.62 ERA in nine starts.
The Nationals have a decent offensive stats this season as they are placed on the 11th spot in the league in scoring, putting up 4.68 runs per game. The Nats are also on the 11th spot in hitting at .252 and 14th spot in homers with a total of 168. On the mound, they are placed on the 17th spot in the league in ERA at 4.01, while also being on the 8th place in WHIP at 1.24 and 10th spot in K’s with 1246.
Philadelphia Phillies Form
The Phillies had a good season this year. It seemed that they will get as far as their form was really good. However, it seems that they have run out of steam as they have fallen down the table. They have lost the last two games against the Nationals and their chances for a playoff spot have faded. Nevertheless, they are a good team and they can only improve in the future.
The Phillies have averaged 4.61 runs per game and have allowed 4.32 runs per game here at the Bank for the year.
Aaron Nola record against the Nationals stands at 4-4 with a 3.38 ERA in 14 starts.
On the offensive side of the game, the Phillies have been below average offensive team as they are placed on the 21st spot in the league in scoring, putting up 4.27 runs per game, while also being on the 28th spot in hitting at .237 and 15th place in homers with 167. On the mound, they have been very solid so far as they are placed on the 14th spot in the league in ERA at 3.95, while also being on the 11th spot in WHIP at 1.27 and 7th in K’s with 1283.
The Nationals should be disappointed this season. They were expecting to dominate the National East Division but they have failed to materialize the role of being favourites. On the other side, the Phillies played a solid season but the fatigue caught them in the final weeks. They have lost the first two games of the series against the Nationals and they will need to get back to winning ways in this game. I expect a Phillies win in this one.
