This could be the best, if not one of the best pitching match-ups on the board today. We have two teams that are not offensive juggernauts. In addition to that, Giants ballpark is very pitching friendly.
Johnny Cueto, the Giants starting pitcher for today, is one of their standouts in the Dodgers series. He was very sharp in his start allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits in 4.0 innings of work against the Dodgers. Dodgers struggled to get to him and he looked very compose on the mound.
I expect even deeper start for Cueto in this one and if he was able to limit the Dodgers lineup. I’m sure he will be able to do the same against the over-hyped and mediocre Padres team.
Cueto was struggling with injuries in the past couple of seasons. That’s why he only recorded 4 games in 2019 when he pitched just 16 innings and ending the season with 5.06 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. People overlook him and he is a underrated pitcher with very good potential to be a really solid rotation piece this season for the Giants.
The Padres counters with young phenom, Chris Paddack. I have no problem trusting Paddack against the Giants lineup that’s still struggling with injuries to important hitters and this season scoring average of just 2.6 runs per game. Paddack has a trustworthy arm with great control and again one of the main candidates for a CY Young award this season.
Last night we saw Padres winning series opener 5-3 but today I think the runs will be much harder to come with this high level pitching match-up. Giants bullpen will not do any of the crazy stunts like in the game against Dodgers. For these reasons, I don’t see this game flying over the posted total.
