The MLB is back on the schedule on Saturday as the St Louis Cardinals take on the San Francisco Giants in game three of their four-game series from AT&T Park in San Francisco, California. The Cardinals will give the nod to Carlos Martinez and the Giants will give a chance to Jeff Samardzija.
St Louis Cardinals Form
The St Louis Cardinals were not very consisted in the last couple of months. However, it seems that they have bounced back as they beat the Giants in the first game with a dominant score of 11-2. However, they took a step back as they lost the second game of the series with a score of 3-2. These two games just showed that the Cardinals are not consistent enough lately. The Cards have averaged 4.66 runs per game and have allowed 4.20 runs per game out on the road so far.
Carlos Martinez record against the Giants stands at 2-1 with a 3.09 ERA in five games (three starts), including 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in one start at AT&T Park.
On the offensive side of the game, the Cards have been average this season as they are placed on the 15th place in the league in scoring, putting up 4.38 runs per game, while also being 15th in hitting at .245 and 10th place in homers with a total of 111. On the mound, they have been solid as they have the 9th best record in the league in ERA at 3.69 while also ranking 13th in WHIP at 1.27 and 17th place in K’s with 719.
San Francisco Giants Form
The Giants did not start this series well as they lost the first game with a score of 11-2. They were not good enough in that game and the defeat was probably deserved. However, they were able to bounce back as they won the second game with a score of 3-2. It seems that the offence is not in a good form at the moment as the Giants are struggling to score. San Francisco has averaged 4.73 runs per game and has allowed 4.29 runs per game at the AT&T Park this year.
Jeff Samardzija record against the Cardinals stands at 4-4 with a 3.68 ERA in 23 games (12 starts). Samardzija has gone 11-13 with a 3.92 ERA in 35 games (34 starts) at the AT&T Park in his career.
On the offensive side of the game, they have been poor this season as they are placed on they are placed on the 22nd spot in the league in scoring, putting up 4.07 runs per game, while also holding the 9th spot in hitting at .251 and 23rd place in homers with 87 so far. On the mound, they are placed on the 17th place in the league in ERA at 4.09 while also holding the 20th spot in WHIP at 1.34 and 24th in K’s with 680.
It seems that Cardinals are inconsistent lately, however they are still a very solid team as they have shown in the first game. On the other hand, the Giants were able to win the second game, but their offensive capabilities are not very solid at the moment. That is why I expect the Cardinals to win this game.
