Houston Rockets vs. Los Angeles Lakers, Game 2 Western Conference Semifinals. The Rockets already have the advantage, minimal but enough to send a clear message to the Lakers. Few points were expected in the first game, but the Lakers’ weakness was a surprise. For now, LeBron and Davis have to figure out how to move on and look for the first win in this round.
Houston Rockets: First hit.
The Rockets took the first step in this second round of the playoffs. The first 112-97 victory left a strong wound on the rival team. But there is still much to define. The Rockets struggled against the Thunder and carried the series to a seventh game. If the team makes the same mistakes against the Lakers, the outcome could be totally different.
The team has an offense inferior to the Lakers. In the playoffs the Rockets are scoring an average of 110.6 points per game, 39.4 FG points, 17.8 three pointers, 79.6% free throw shots, 21.1 assists, 7.0 offensive rebounds and 9.8 steals. The defense is the fourteenth worst of the entire postseason allowing up to 103.1 points per game and 11.9 three pointers.
In the first game Harden was the top scorer with 36 points, 3 three pointers and 5 assists. Eric Gordon and Russell Westbrook both scored more than 20 points. From the bench the Rockets scored 17 points between Jeff Green and Austin Rivers. Harden leads the Rockets in the postseason with 30.5 points.
Los Angeles Lakers: Just one loss.
The Lakers know they still have time to recover. Damage is minimal and the team can move on in the series. The first game was difficult to absorb defensively. The Lakers were outmatched by the Rockets attack. The team could barely win the third quarter 24-22. In addition, the Lakers were outscored in field goals with 56.8% over 48.8%.
In the table of the best offenses this postseason, the Lakers are in third place with 113.8 points per game. 41.5 FG points, 11.8 three pointers, 71.7% free throw shots, 24.7 assists, 12 offensive rebounds and 8.7 steals. The weak point of the Lakers is defense, the team allows up to 107.5 points per game, 37.8 FG points and 12 three pointers.
James and Davis were the only players in Game 1 to score 20 points each for the Lakers. The other player who was closer to that figure was Alex Caruso from the bench with 14 points. In total the starters scored 64 points, and from the bench 33 points divided between five players.
