Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Illinois Fighting Illini, third game of the fourth week, the Lions have always taken the lead against the Illini, but the last that Penn State visited and played against the Illini the team lost 16-14 in 2014. This is an important game for the conference, the Lions want to win to improve the record and continue advancing in the ranking of the FBS Big ten.
Penn State Nittany Lions: We are stronger.
The Lions record this season is positive, 3 wins and 0 losses, this will be the first game of the conference for them. This game is on the road, it is not a bad sign, but last season the record finished in 3-2 at the end of the season on the road. This year they had a single game on the road against Pittsburgh 51-6, and the remaining two games were at home with solid victories. Against the Illini the team lost the last game on the road in 2014-16-14 and the last they played was at Penn State and the Lions won 39-0.
Trace McSorley has shown solid results for the team, the three victories are due in large part to the effectiveness that McSorley has offered in each of the games. McSorley had a regular effectiveness over 50% in passes against Appalachian State, Pittsburgh and Kent State, the highest percentage of effectiveness was against Appalachian State with 58.3% 21-36.
Illinois Fighting Illini: Positive record at home.
The Illini know how to defend their home, despite having a defeat against South Florida Bulls 25-19 on the road. The two home games were against Kent State 31-24 and defeated Western Illinois 34-14 at home. The team knows that this game is important for being a conference and if they win the game they would be in the first place of the WEST Big Ten on the Wild Cats, but they know that it will not be easy to win against the Lions and it is unlikely that victory is achievable today. Last season I finish with a negative record for the team with 2-10 overall.
AJ Bush is probably the QB tonight, despite having suffered a hamstring injury, Bush will take action against the Lions. Bush became starting QB since the defeat of the Illini’s first game, and the results with him have been good. 13-23 with 56.5% against Kent State and 71.4% with little passes 5-7 against Western Illinois. The Illini against the Lions are 4-2-0 in the positive ATS from 2009 to 2015: +5 L, +5.5 W, +11.5 W, +5.5 W, +8.5 W, +7.5 L.
