The National Hockey League is back on Friday evening as the Philadelphia Flyers will face the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG PAINTS Arena in Pittsburgh, PA in the fifth game first round playoff series. The Penguins won game four by a score of 5-0 and now have a 3-1 lead in the series
Philadelphia Flyers Form
The Philadelphia Flyers were pretty solid during the regular part of the season. Moreover, they were able to surprise many of us as the beat the Penguins 5-1 in game two, yet they are now one loss away from being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. The Flyers have now lost the last two games by a combined 10-1 count which put them in a very complicated position going into this game. Before the playoffs, Philadelphia had a good average score of 3.90 goals per game during the last 11 games, but in these series, they have a big problem with the offence. Their away form this year stands at 21-22 and they have averaged 3.00 goals per game and have allowed 2.95 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the ice, the Flyers were solid during the regular part of the season as they were ranked 12th in the league in scoring at 3.04 goals per game, converting on 20.7% of their chances. Their defensive form has been average as they are placed on the 15th spot in goals allowed, letting in an average of 2.88 goals per game, allowing teams to convert on 24.2% of their chances.
Pittsburgh Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins are in a good form in their quest for a third Stanley Cup Title in a row. After the 5-1 defeat in game two, The Penguins bounced back as they won 7-5-1 in game three and 5-0 in game four. The Penguins home form this season is 31-12 and they have averaged 3.65 goals per game and have allowed 2.67 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive were one of the better teams during the regular season as they are placed on the 3rd spot in the league in scoring at 3.29 goals per game, converting on 26.2% of their chances. At the defensive side of the game, their form has not been great as they are placed on the 20th spot in goals allowed, letting in an average of 3.02 goals per game, allowing teams to convert on 20.0% of their chances.
The Flyers had a good performance during the regular season. Also, they had their moment of glory in game two of this series. Unfortunately, they are no match for the two-time defending champions. The Penguins offence is very potent these days and the Flyers just cannot find the proper offensive form. I go for an easy Penguins win.
