The NHL Western Conference Finals are back in action on Sunday afternoon as the Vegas Golden Knights take on the Winnipeg Jets at MTS Bell Centre. This will be game five of their best-of-seven series. The Golden Knights took a 3-1 lead in the series after winning game four by a score of 3-2.
Vegas Golden Knights Form
Nobody expected that the Golden Knights will get this far in their debut season in the NHL. They were solid throughout the season and are just one win away from making it to the Stanley Cup Finals. That will be a remarkable success and surely will go down in the NHL history. The Knights did not start well this series as they lost the first game in Winnipeg. However, they were able to turn the tide as they won the next three games against the Jets and now they lead the series with 3-1. Nevertheless, it will not be easy for the Golden Knights as the Jets are one of the best teams this season. The Golden Knights away record this season stands at 27-21 so far and have averaged 2.88 goals per game and have allowed 2.85 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, Vegas has some below average stats in the postseason as they are placed on the 9th spot in scoring at 2.93 goals per game, converting on 18.4% of their chances. However, their main strength is the defence. They are the 2nd best team in goals allowed, conceding an average of 1.86 goals per game, allowing the opposing teams to convert on 18.9% of their chances.
Winnipeg Jets Form
The Winnipeg Jets had a great season so far as they were one of the best teams in the regular part of the season. Moreover, they were superior against the Minnesota Wild and they also eliminated the mighty Predators before heading for the Western Conference Finals. They were able to keep the momentum after winning in Nashville which resulted in winning the first game against the Golden Knights. However, it seems that the Jets are a bit tired after playing so many games in a short period of time. They have lost the last three games against the Knights and are just one loss away from elimination. The Jets have gone 37-12 here at home this season and they have averaged 3.69 goals per game and have conceded 2.43 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, they have some decent form so far as they are placed on the 5th spot in scoring at 3.25 goals per game, converting on 26.7% of their chances. They have been very solid at the defensive part of the game as they are the 3rd best team in goals allowed, conceding an average of 2.50 goals per game, allowing the opposing teams to convert on 25.0% of their chances.
The Jets are in a very complicated situation. They played well in the last two games but they were unlucky to lose both. However, they are a very good team and surely they will aim to bounce back in front of their home fans. Their record at home stands at 37-12 and expect that winning tradition to continue. On the other side, the Golden Knights have the winning momentum on their side, but they are not very good on the road this season. I expect the Jets to bounce back and win this game in Winnipeg.
