The Hockey League playoff is back in action on Saturday evening as the Washington Capitals will clash with Tampa Bay Lightning at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida in game five of their best-of-seven series. Tampa Bay put the series to 2-2 as they were able to score a 4-2 away win on Thursday.
Washington Capitals Form
The Washington Capitals started the Eastern Conference Finals in a dominant way as they had a 2-0 lead after winning the first two games against Tampa Bay. However, they were not able to capitalize on that as they lost the next two games at their home ice in Washington D.C. They had similar issues at home in the round against the Penguins. They really need to reorganize and to get back on track if they want to be part of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Caps away record so far stands at 28-21 and they have averaged 3.06 goals per game and have allowed 3.10 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the fame, the Capitals are the 1st team in scoring during the playoffs as they stand at 3.56 goals per game, converting on 28.6% of their chances. At the defensive side of their game, during the playoffs, they have been above average so far as the Caps are 5th in goals allowed, conceding an average of 2.75 goals per game, allowing teams to convert on 26.3% of their chances.
Tampa Bay Lightning Form
The Tampa Bay Lightning did not start well in this series as they lost the first two home games. However, they were able to get back on track as they won the next two games in Washington. They head into this game with the momentum on their side and they surely will aim to capitalize on that. Tampa Bay has a good record at home as they have gone 34-15 so far this season and have averaged 3.49 goals per game and have allowed 2.96 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, Tampa Bay has been solid as they are placed on the 4th spot in the league in scoring an average of 3.36 goals per game, converting on 30.8% of their chances. At the defensive side of the game, they have been above average during the playoffs as they are placed on the 6th spot in goals allowed, conceding an average of 2.69 goals per game, allowing teams to convert on 24.5% of their chances.
It is interesting that the away team was always the winner in the previous four games. However, I think that this game will turn that tide as the Tampa Bay will aim to take advantage of playing in front of their fans. The Lightning is a very good team at home and I expect that they will continue that domination by winning this game on Saturday. The momentum is on their side and fully expect from them to win this game. Go for Tampa in this one.
